ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Jean Sebastien Pinto, I am a 2023 graduate of the Clemson Spanish and International Health Bachelor of Science program. While always interested in going into a healthcare career, I also wanted to gain a wider perspective of the network of culture, policy and overall humanity aspect on health. Through the Spanish and International Health program I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the Spanish Language, Latino cultures and Public Health strategies to be an even more effective healthcare professional.

Throughout my four years at Clemson I have gained a greater insight on the preventative side of healthcare and the powerful benefit of fully understanding the needs of patients and the unique barriers to access that they face. This has been emphasized through the interpreting I have done as a fluent Spanish speaker for patients through the low-income health care clinic, Volunteers in Medicine. Through this position I have served as a bridge of understanding between healthcare providers and patients, and engaged in the work of helping those in disadvantaged situations to get the aid that they want. Opportunities of service like this have continued to fuel my passion to help others and organize opportunities of education for the greater public. While at my time at Clemson I have been able to: advise my college on how to improve student opportunities, promote Latino culture through heritage festivals, and attract professionals in their fields to speak on many matters such as the impact of early childhood trauma on later life outcomes, how to talk to someone who is depressed as well as international aid work careers. My major has equipped me with a unique approach to seeing health issues through the lens of the social factors and the barriers that marginalized people face in receiving appropriate healthcare. In the future, I want to become a great dentist and help remove pain from the lives of my patients, restore function so that they can live comfortably and return pride to patients so that may share a beautiful smile with the world.

In this eDossier you will find artifacts highlighting my experiences in healthcare, Spanish work, volunteering as well as outreach.
